Howard Zinn, the progressive teacher, historian, and patriot, has died at the age of 87. Zinn’s book, “A People’s History of the United States”, is a popular and polemical reading of American history from the aspect of the underdog. Tracing the nation’s roots from the genocidal treatment of the native peoples, through the gross indignities of slavery, to the fight for labor unions, women’s suffrage and civil rights. Ironically, the book was first published in 1980, during the dawn of the Reagan era, and grew popular through word-of-mouth on college campuses. In 2009, tomorrowpictures.TV was fortunate enough to speak with Howard Zinn, Josh Brolin, and Congressman John Lewis about Zinn’s seminal American history book and the documentary based upon it. Rest in peace, Howard Zinn. Your voice will be sorely missed.
