The Three Stooges: Numbskulls Live Forever

For 80 years mothers everywhere have told their sons, “Stop watching those idiots!” Yes the Three Stooges strike a funny bone in young boys and most men that makes them want to slap, kick and poke each others eyes out. Violence can be funny, really. Larry, Moe, Curly, Shemp, Joe, and Curly Joe from the 1920′s – 1970′s were the funniest numbskulls in Hollywood. The Three Stooges started in 1925 as part of a raucous vaudeville act called ‘Ted Healy and His Stooges’ (a.k.a. ‘Ted Healy and His Southern Gentlemen’, ‘Ted Healy and His Three Lost Souls’ and ‘Ted Healy and His Racketeers’—the moniker ‘Three Stooges’ was never used during their tenure with Healy). In the act, lead comedian Healy would attempt to sing or tell jokes while his noisy assistants would keep “interrupting” him. Healy would respond by verbally and physically abusing his stooges.  Continue reading ‘The Three Stooges: Numbskulls Live Forever’

Winning? America’s unexplainable obsession with Charlie Sheen

The life of Charlie Sheen has been roller coaster to say the least. We first see him as a hard working 80s actor trying to make a name for himself (under the shadow of his famous father), and from there we see that he has evolved into a different beast entirely. He’s become an erratic, drug addicted, playboy that somehow turned into one of the highest grossing television actor in history. Overwhelming success typically corrupts and ruins one’s career, but in the case of Charlie Sheen he seems to only see rewards. Looking at Sheen’s current features, you can see that essentially he plays the same character: himself. Two and a Half Men directed Sheen to play a rich drunken playboy that literally eats, drinks, and sleeps with random women on ever episode (a character that has single handedly made the show one of the highest rated sitcoms). In Wall Street 2 he reprises his role as Bud Fox, a breakout role that in 1987 showed his budding versatility, but his cameo 23 years later was only different from his TV character in the fact that he wore a suit. Until recently this was acceptable, but his unpredictable behavior turned out to be too much considering he was soon fired from Two and a Half Men after mounting bad press attention. Losing such a high paying gig would usually serve as a wakeup call for most actors, but not Charlie Sheen. At this point, the American public has become obsessed with his crazy antics. Most people don’t know anyone that could do cocaine with a porn star, solicit sex, and crash plastered on a hotel bathroom floor screaming obscenities all while their ex wife and children are next door ON A WEEKDAY. Who else would you know that lives with a porn star and actress that are referred to as “goddesses”? No one but Charlie and people can’t stop seeing what he’ll do or reveal next Continue reading ‘Winning? America’s unexplainable obsession with Charlie Sheen’

What’s My Line with Lucille Ball:

whats-my-line2.jpgCompare this classic game show to something like “Deal or No Deal”. No contest. What’s My Line? is a weekly panel game show, which originally ran in the United States from 1950 to 1967 with several international versions and subsequent U.S. revivals. The game tasked celebrity panelists with questioning contestants in order to determine their occupations. It is the longest-running game show in the history of prime time network television. This episode is one of the more fun ones for a few reasons. When they have on the guy who sells maternity clothes, the (sexually repressed, I suppose) 50′s audience goes apoplectic over anything having the slightest thing to do with sex! Johnny Carson:

10361659_110650860728.jpgJohnny Carson is best known as America’s late night king of comedy. As thirty year host of NBC television’s Tonight Show, his topical monologues, irreverent characters, comical double takes and frivolous sketches entertained more people than any other performer in history. His late night arena provided plugs for untold books, films and products, created a springboard to stardom for an infinite number of new performers and, more than occasionally, offered a secure refuge for aging legends.Carson began performing professionally at the age of fourteen as a magician-comic, “The Great Carsoni,” for the local Rotary Club in his hometown of Norfolk, Nebraska. After a two year stint as a Navy Ensign during World War II, and four years as a radio-drama major at the University of Nebraska, he plunged headfirst into the world of broadcasting as a radio announcer-disc jockey. When WOW in Omaha began television operations in 1949, Carson was there to host his first video program, The Squirrel’s Nest, a daily early afternoon show. Continue reading ‘Johnny Carson:’

I’ve Got a Secret, I love Lucy:

lucilleball-_orig.jpgI’ve Got A Secret was an early celebrity game show in which the celebrity panel had to figure out the guest’s secret by asking questions from which clues were derived. The program was aired by CBS from 1952 to 1967.This show features Mr. Samuel J. Seymour who was ninety-six years old at the time the show aired. Mr. Seymour was the last living person to have been present at the Lincoln assassination. He was five years old when he witnessed John Wilkes Booth leap from the balcony of Ford’s Theatre, on April 14th, 1865, after shooting President Lincoln. Mr. Seymour died two months after the show’s airing, on April 14th, 1956, ninety-one years to the day of Lincoln’s assassination.Jayne Meadows, with some preparation by radio and television personality Bill Cullen, seems to be particularly bright and adept at the game. The sexual tension between Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz is hilarious and the great Gary Moore (who later went on to host the 70′s program, To Tell The Truth) plays a wonderful foil. The Little Rascals – Waldo’s Last Stand

little_rascals.jpgOur Gang, also known as The Little Rascals  or Hal Roach’s Rascals, was a series of American comedy short films about a group of poor neighborhood children and the adventures they had together. Created by comedy producer Hal Roach, Our Gang was produced at the Roach studio starting in 1922 as a silent short subject series. Roach changed distributors from Pathé to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) in 1927, went to sound in 1929 and continued production until 1938, when he sold the series to MGM. MGM in turn continued producing the comedies until 1944. A total of 220 shorts and one feature film, General Spanky, were eventually produced, featuring over forty-one child actors. In the mid-1950s, the 80 Roach-produced shorts with sound were syndicated for television under the title The Little Rascals, as MGM retained the rights to the Our Gang trademark. The series is noted for showing children behaving in a relatively natural way. Tiger Woods “What he was thinking”

women-of-tiger_537x4092.jpgDevon James can’t even convince her own mother that Tiger Woods fathered her 9-year-old son — in fact, her flesh and blood thinks Devon is such a money-grubbing liar … she belongs behind bars. James claimed Tiger is the baby daddy of her 9-year-old son, and wanted the judge to force Tiger to submit to a DNA test.  But the judge in Manatee County, Florida dismissed the case … partly because Devon was a no-show.Tiger Woods mistress #1 Rachel Uchitel is not becoming his wife #2 — but TMZ has learned Tiger’s camp did reach out to her recently. But according to our sources, Rachel recently heard from Tiger’s attorneys because they were concerned about her doing “Celebrity Rehab.” We’re told they called to make sure Tiger was not on the tip of Rachel’s tongue — she’s not allowed to mention him publicly under the terms of that $10 million deal she got.Tiger Woods plays golf did you know that? He is the number one ranked golfer in the the world. These days you would not know that. Lately Tiger is more famous for his tabloid choices than his short game.
