Do you think Conservatives hate paying taxes now? It’s nothing compared to the good ol’ days, as you’ll see in this 1940 Republican party campaign film on behalf of Wendell Willkie for President. What starts out as a discourse on taxes ends up with a vicious attack on Roosevelt (who is strangely never mentioned by name). Using images of Hitler, Stalin, and marching German troops, it equates a fourth term for FDR with home-grown fascism. Sounds an awful lot like what the TeaBaggers are screaming about now, with Roosevelt replaced by Obama. In addition, Democrats are criticized as big-spending bureaucrats who are soft on defense, and there’s a Rush Limbaugh-approved argument against raising taxes on the rich.
