Dennis Hopper, famed actor-artist-raconteur, was feted this week with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Appearing frail and sporting a bandage above his right eye, the long-time Hollywood icon was supported by friends Jack Nicholson, Viggo Mortensen, David Lynch and Dwight Yoakam. Hopper, who has appeared steadily since the 1950s in landmark motion pictures such as Giant, Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet and Hoosiers, is battling prostate cancer, and is currently embroiled in a bitter divorce proceeding with his fifth wife and mother of his son, Victoria. Scorched, deadened earth. Massive loss of human, animal and plant life. The alteration of the movement of the planet on its axis. These are only a few of the devastating effects that even limited Nuclear Warfare could have upon us! Fortunately, the US and Russia are on the verge of clinching an historic nuclear arms treaty. A Kremlin official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said last night that the two sides had agreed on “all documents” for a new deal to slash their nuclear arsenals, replacing the landmark 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (Start). The Czech Republic also announced that a date had been set for President Obama and President Medvedev to meet in Prague and sign the treaty, raising hopes of an accord at Easter.
March 25th marks the fourth anniversary of the death of American music legend Buck Owens. What follows is the Tomorrow Pictures.TV blog that ran in tribute. Holdup! Except that’s not right. Or it shouldn’t be. Alvis E. Owens Jr. (he nicknamed himself Buck after the family mule, and if that ain’t dirt road cred, there ain’t no such thing) may have gained later fame as a cornpone clown on syndicated television, but he got his greatest fame for being the one of the best country music performers of all time. March 22nd is officially designated the World Day for Water, but we urge you to remember that every day should be one to celebrate our dear Mother Earth, the planetary spaceship that carries us safely through the cosmos. Take that extra ten seconds to put the soda bottle in the recycle bin, conserve the tap water when you brush your teeth, and take a bus to work once a week instead of driving. Baby steps can lead to another giant leap in human evolution, and you can do your part! TomorrowPictures.TV and You – Changing the World!
Si, muchachos, today is the birthday of Benito Pablo Juárez García, the first full-blooded indigenous national ever to serve as President of Mexico! During his political career Juarez instituted a series of liberal reforms into the new constitution of 1857, fought the French occupation of Mexico, and helped to establish Mexico as a Democracy. He also promoted equal rights for the Indian population, better access to health care and education, lessening the political and financial power of the Roman Catholic church, and championed the raising of the living standards for the rural poor. So no matter which side of the border you’re on, pop open a cerveza, and celebrate freedom and liberty on Juarez’ birthday with TomorrowPictures.TV!
