The Grammys air Sunday night in America, and the Black Eyed Peas are up for multiple nominations, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group! Here’s a flash back to 2007 with BEP! Does anyone really know what the Black Eyed Peas are talking about when they perform their smash hit “My Humps”? Of course it’s sexual innuendo of the most nursery-rhymish sort, but have the humps been accurately anatomically identified? No? Okay. That’s fine. As long as Fergie shakes her rump while she croons about her humps, we can dig it. Happy Hump Day…

Howard Zinn, the progressive teacher, historian, and patriot, has died at the age of 87. Zinn’s book, “A People’s History of the United States”, is a popular and polemical reading of American history from the aspect of the underdog. Tracing the nation’s roots from the genocidal treatment of the native peoples, through the gross indignities of slavery, to the fight for labor unions, women’s suffrage and civil rights. Ironically, the book was first published in 1980, during the dawn of the Reagan era, and grew popular through word-of-mouth on college campuses. In 2009, tomorrowpictures.TV was fortunate enough to speak with Howard Zinn, Josh Brolin, and Congressman John Lewis about Zinn’s seminal American history book and the documentary based upon it. Rest in peace, Howard Zinn. Your voice will be sorely missed.
The money is flowing into Haiti from all over the world, funds sent to help save the Island nation. But will it make any difference? From the few remaining members of the elite business class to refugees scraping to survive in squalid tent camps, Haitians said they expect that a good portion of any money sent will go straight into the pockets of corrupt government officials. Transparency International, a group that studies government corruption, rates Haiti’s government as one of the world’s most corrupt and least effective, despite efforts by President Rene Preval to combat the chronic problem. For a closer look into the indemic troubles facing Haiti as it attempts to rebuild from the series of devestating earthquakes, we present to you Haiti: The Misunderstood Neighbor. This 1992 documentary, directed by Ayiti Vizyon, examines Haiti’s history, sense of cultural expression, the current political situation, and hopes for the future.
Comedian Andy Dick has been arrested on counts of felony sexual abuse, while still on probation from a 2008 arrest for pulling down a teen girl’s top. The attack allegedly happened early Saturday morning in West Virginia, after Dick appeared at the Funny Bone Comedy Club and Restaurant in Huntington. Dick is currently in the Western Regional Jail, police confirm. Based upon statements of two victims and independent witness accounts alleging that he had engaged in unwanted and uninvited groping of the two victims’ genital areas, Andrew R. Dick (AKA Andy Dick) of South Pasadena, Calif., was arrested and charged with two counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree,” read a statement from the Huntington Police Department. Get better, Andy. While we wait for the arraignment, here’s Andy Dick in happier times, spoofing Dubya with a special appearance by Ariana Huffington.
Change the world. It’s something we all want to do. As the celebrities gather to raise funds for the people of Haiti, we’d like to remind you that this yearning to make our planet better is not new – it’s a basic component of human nature that has been with us since we could formulate the idea that what “is” isn’t good enough. For more proof, check out this video, entitled “You Can Change the World”, from 1951. Filmed live in Jack Benny’s house, it features a group of celebrities, among them Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, urging Americans to stand up and take part in changing the world for the better. It’s a message that never gets old. If you’d like to help change your corner of the world, contact the Red Cross. They’ll help you get started!
It’s hard to believe that it’s already been two years since the startling death of Heath Ledger, the Australian-born actor who starred in “The Dark Knight”, “Brokeback Mountain”, and Terry Gilliam’s new film “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”. Ledger was found in his Manhattan apartment dead from a combination of prescription drugs, leaving behind an infant daughter. Here’s a look back at Ledger in an interview shortly before the release of DK, which featured the actor in what many feel is the role of his career, the supervillian “the Joker”. If you feel you might have a problem with addiction to prescription drugs, please get help. This is a good place to start. RIP Heath Ledger.
He’s been described as “a new evocative voice” by no less than Academy Award Winner Morgan Freeman. That’s some strong props for a serious Up and Comer named Eddie Wakes! Born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, singer/songwriter Wakes has a musical heritage that began in his youth at the Baptist Church where his father served as Pastor. Right out of high school, Eddie was selected to tour the world with the renowned ensemble “Up With People.” This break exposed him to the wide variety of music and cultures around the globe, and the experience inspired Eddie to refine his own roots of Gospel, Blues and Soul into a distinctive style: Eddie learned to sing “The Great American Songbook” like few others of his generation. Playing in Los Angeles first as a street performer, he now performs on stage with musical luminaries and icons like Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau, David Benoit, BB King, Linda Rondstadt and Nelson Riddle, among many others. Eddie is currently in the studio recording his debut album with both Grammy and Tony Award winning producer and composer John Du Prez and famed Americana producer Marvin Etzioni (Lone Justice). tomorrowpictures.TV is proud to present the sweet sounds of Eddie Wakes, performing More and More!
Hollywood has an image across the planet as the epicenter of all that’s sinful. That makes some sense, since Hollywood is where the American Entertainment Complex blasts out its broadcasts full of sex, violence and Ryan Seacrest to the waiting world. So, while you won’t see many Movie Stars or Music Bigshots on Hollywood Blvd, you will find street preachers every day, working tirelessly to save the unrighteous, whether the unrighteous are interested or not. Recently our intrepid correspondent Dirty Diana got broadsided by a Soldier for Christ. They had a nice little religious argument, during which it came out that Gandhi is burning in Hell, and the rest of us are soon to join him. Let us praise God with a little unfiltered discourse on tomorrowpictures.TV!
