Michael Phelps: Greatest Olympian of All Time

83c008dc-a31d-4f41-ab4d-df89bdbcbe20.jpgMichael Phelps is set up to be one of the greatest athletes to ever compete at the Olympic Games. Because when he won the 200 fly in 1:52.03 Wednesday morning at the Water Cube, his sixth improvement on the world record he has held continuously since 2001, it was his fourth gold medal of the Beijing Games and – with the six he won at Athens in 2004 – it made him the most decorated gold medallist in Olympic Games history.

Phelps had his toughest day Wednesday, with two medal races an hour apart, and now has a whole day without one in which to recharge before tackling the long weekend: the 200m individual medley Friday, the 100 butterfly Saturday and the 400 medley relay on Sunday.

“I’m almost at a loss for words,” Phelps said, after his 11th gold, in the relay. “Growing up I always wanted to be an Olympian. Now to be the most decorated Olympian of all time, it just sounds weird saying. It started setting in a little bit after the butterfly. I was just trying to focus on my next race, but I just kept thinking, ‘Wow, greatest Olympian of all time.’ It’s a pretty cool title.”

To show the caliber of this incredible athlete, we snagged the footage of his record breaking 200m medley.
