Rem Steele is a native of Mobile, Alabama, and an Old Skool veteran of the music industry. After years of seeing hip hop being used to glorify drugs, sex and violence, here’s his tribute to the inspired presidential run of Barack Obama! More than a political statement, the song is an affirmation of the significance of an African American running for the nation’s highest office. Ah, the early 80s. You didn’t have to be able to play your instruments or even sing in order to craft a pop hit on MTV. All you had to do was have the right hair styling gel and lots of it. A nice British accent was a good touch, too… Here’s the Fixx, with their gel and accents out front, from their breakthrough 1983 album “Reach the Beach”. Groove to a highly unlikely slice of synth pop top 10 ear candy with “One Thing Leads to Another” on KillMtv!

PUT ME ON is the show that collects the detritus of the internet and puts it together into one tasty nugget of short attention span theater! In this episode, George Bush and Tony Blair let their Endless Love finally show to the world; two kids beat the crap out of each other; a stupid people montage shows puke, snot and lots of bouncing breasts; full contact women’s professional bowling; and naked girls love Big Trucks! PUT ME ON: if it’s on the internet, it’s probably worth watching…

In 1990, when the International Olympic Committee announced that Atlanta, GA would host the Centennial Olympic Games, the city went wild with glee. As the representative of the “New South”, Atlanta was determined to shed the backward, racist image that had lingered over the region for the previous century.
More than $2 billion worth of Olympic-related and other construction was completed in the six years prior to the games, and Atlanta transformed itself into an “International City.” What was hidden in this unprecedented construction boom was the relocation of scores of inner city people to create a more inviting atmosphere for international visitors. Inner City Blues is an award winning PBS documentary by Frederick Taylor documenting this underground dislocation of the poor populace in the name of “Olympism”.
