In protest, NASCAR fans pelted the track with garbage Sunday as Gordon crossed the finish line at the Talladega Superspeedway to move into sixth place on the career win list. It is better to have Loved and Lost than to Never have Loved at all. Deep words, written by someone who probably never been in love before. Love hurts, and ABC knew that to be true. What was the very first song played on MTV? It was Buggles prophetic #1 hit, “Video Killed the Radio Star”! The song that really kickstarted the New Wave 80s was actually recorded in 1979, as a demo for Island Records. While Buggles eventually released two albums and charted with several other singles, nothing ever came close to the mania inspired by their very first song. Geoff Downs and Trevor Horn, the men behind Buggles, used their newfound fame to make the leap to Art-rock stardom with Yes, with Downs later playing in the “supergroup” Asia, while Horn became the producer of such 80s staples as ABC, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Simple Minds and Art of Noise.
